The wave of support for ‘Try Me’ turned tidal after Drake quoted its lyrics “Love wearing all black, you should see my closet” in the caption of an Instagram post. “The only song they know is ‘Try Me’, which is kinda crazy,” she says, “so I’m still passing CDs out and making sure people understand who I am as an artist and not just one song.” Two mixtapes into her career, DeJ is best known for her track, ‘Try Me’ – a sparkling yet fearless warning of revenge to anyone who’d dare cross her, it gathered pace last year after a viral campaign in the Bay Area – so is intent to let the world know, starting with those here in Austin, that there’s more where that came from.
